My early days/years in Primary school, #5 was such a big deal and the likes of me can't even take such money to school. You must have come from a big house to hold #5 then and you get to show off with it but not any more. Recently i was given 2 #5 note as change in the market and it looked like i've never seen it, i can't remember the last time i saw that note. I had to ask the woman if its still in circulation before it turns to the likes of the money kept by my grandma's then to show us as we grow up( old currency).
Things are really expensive now and you can hardly get anything for #5 hence the scarcity of that note. The funniest part is anything that has that value in it you have to buy 2 because you might not get a change of #5. The #35 naira noodles is sold as 2 for#70 and the #25 egg is just automatically 2 for #50. Hardly will you enter a store and see any item tagged with #5.
Here are list of those item that use to be #5 but not any longer.
